Borrowed Lites are made out of the exact same material that hollow metal frames are made of. We cut the pieces to the correct lengths in our shop, square them up, then weld them together. They look like a 4 sided HM frame in the end...except these get a piece of glass installed where the door would usually go. They are anchored in the walls the same way as standard frames are.
Glazing Bead butts up to the glass and is screwed to the frame rabbet.

I just got finished with a job in the shop that had 32 double side lites. Lot of welding and grinding, but sure was nice to look at them all stacked in a row when they were done and ready to ship. Hard work but gratifying work.
